FERC Part 12 Dam Safety Inspections, El Dorado Irrigation District
AndreggGeomatics was awarded a contract with El Dorado Irrigation District (EID) to perform high precision movement surveys of several reservoirs managed and maintained by the District.
Utilizing previously established survey control networks, AndreggGeomatics performed field surveys to recover the survey control and make multiple horizontal and vertical measurements of monitoring monuments located at the dams of Weber Reservoir, Silver Lake, Caples Lake, main dam and auxiliary dam. Site restrictions of many of the monitoring monuments located at the dams prevented the use of the Global Positioning System (GPS) to obtain the relative movement of the monuments. Consequently conventional measurements were performed from the control stations. Multiple measurements of angles and distances together with digital leveling observations were combined into a least squares adjustment to minimize random errors and obtain relative positions of monuments. The results showed that no movement could be detected in the monuments at the precision of 0.01 feet in the measurements for horizontal and vertical movement.
In conjunction with the surveys of existing dam monitoring systems, AndreggGeomatics is also performing a monitoring control network design, construction and primary value acquisition of other EID reservoirs.
At the historic Forebay Reservoir in Pollock Pines, AndreggGeomatics is currently installing a new control network of monitoring monuments and primary control stations. This site provides the opportunity to utilize GPS systems to supplement the conventional measurement of the newly installed monuments.
